Detailed Safari itinerary

Day 1: Arrival at Kigali Airport
Upon arrival in Rwanda, you will meet your driver guide at the airport and then transfer Eastwards to Akagera National Park near Tanzania boarder. It is just a 2 hrs drive and along the journey, you will be exposed to beautiful scenic viewing. Have lunch and Proceed with the southern game drive alongside the Lake Ihema circuit where a plenty of animals can be seen, including Elephants, Masai Giraffes, Buffaloes, Zebras, Hippos, Nile Crocodiles and also many other mammal species. This game drive will also enable you to clearly view the gentle hills blending beautifully with lowland swamps and water bodies.

Day 2: Game drive and Boat trip: Akagera National Park
Lake Ihema HipposTake a cup of tea/coffee and go for another game drive in the northern circuit of the park. Enjoy the beautiful scenery and landscape through the northern circuit where you will see hippos, crocodiles and even more wildlife than on the lake circuit. Return to the lodge for full breakfast, relax along the pool side as you wait for lunch. After lunch, embark on
a Boat ride on Lake Ihema, which will reward you with large number of hippos, huge Nile crocodiles and about 525 bird species. Dinner and overnight at the Lodge.

Day 3: Akagera National Park – Kigali City - Volcanoes National Park
Have early breakfast and drive back to Kigali, visit the Genocide Memorial, where you will hear stories of survival and the heart-warming stories of recovery and rebuilding hope.  Have lunch, and then proceed north-wards through the beautiful terraced hillsides of Rwanda's landscape, gradually climbing to the base of the awesome volcanoes with a clear view of about 5 peaks. Settle into Kinigi Guest House or Virunga Lodge overlooking the twin lakes of Ruhondo and Bulera.

Day 4: Gorilla Tracking - Parc National des Volcans
This the day for Gorilla tracking excursion: We will wake-up early for breakfast, drive to Kinigi station (with packed lunch and water) for a 30 minutes briefing about the ‘Dos’ and ‘Don’ts’ while with gorillas. There after, join your trackers and head up the slopes of the Forest to visit one of the habituated groups of gorillas. The trek is quite strenuous, so you should be able to hike for 2-8 hours on steep mountain trails. Sight and stay with gorillas is for 1 hour. Return to the lodge and rest.
If the evening is free, we can take a short cultural tour to nearby communities.
Dinner and overnight at Kinigi Guest house or Virunga Lodge.

Day 5: Parc National des volcans – Kigali – Departure
Have a nice relaxed final morning, where we can just soak in the ambiance of the place, reflect back upon the adventures of our past week, and pack. Depending on our flight schedules we may have lunch at the Lodge and then depart for Kigali for your return flight.
